… hire Rep. Phil Hart for another term!
Those who ignore Hart’s book and articles and dismiss Hart’s thousands of hours of research and tens of thousands of pages of reference material with parroted bureaucratic sound bites strengthen the hand of the bureaucrats while diminishing the rights of the people. They speak out of both sides of their mouth, whey they claim they will “push back” against the encroachments of big government. Such statements are disingenuous; they are mutually exclusive. What evidence can Hart’s detractors point at to prove they will actually push back against the encroachments of big government?
Rep. Hart has condensed his exhaustive research on the history of the income tax down to a 450 page book he authored entitled “Constitutional Income”. He has also donated a multiple copies of his book to the Kootenai and Bonner County libraries. A principled person would read Hart’s book before criticizing him. Yet to our knowledge, none of his detractors have done so. The facts don’t fit their agenda. Instead, they fire sound bites at him hoping to develop political spin in their favor. Do you think these unprincipled people will defend your rights? Will they risk their “lives, fortunes and sacred honor” to live up to their oath of office? Hart has proven that he will.
Today nearly everyone running for elected office will say we need to push back against the encroachments of big government. But if you watch these people over time, you will notice that only about one in five of those who make that statement actually do it. The rest of them talk tough, but don’t know how to actually do it, or are afraid to initiate a strategy.
On the other hand, Hart had piled his “push back” legislation high, deep and on solid legal foundation. A visit to Hart’s website lists legislation Hart has authored which does just that. Listed are bills to allow consumer’s to buy food directly from a farmer without government intervention, HB700; to create an alternative gold and silver medium of exchange in the state of Idaho, HB259, HB633 and HB578; to get control of the wolf problem, HB343, HB274 and HB138; to limit the use of body scanners by TSA, HB573; to address the illegal immigration problem HB497, SB1196 and SB1513; to prevent federal government regulation of guns that are both made and sold in the state of Idaho HB589; to outlaw the implementation of Read ID and other driver’s license tracking devices, HJM3, HB606 and HB541; and to elimination the income tax, HB454.
We only noted the bills that push back against the federal government. There many additional bills that address local and state government encroachment that Hart has also authored.
Of the 105 members of the Idaho Legislature, there is not a single other member who can boast of such a widespread effort to push back against big government. Hart is both a highly intelligent man, and a risk taker. Those who have read his book will note in the “About the Author” section that in his younger years Hart won two World Cup Masters races in alpine ski racing for the over 30 years old men. One doesn’t win such a race unless they take risks to get from point A to point B the fastest.
Combined with Hart’s willingness to take risks, is his engineering mind that knows how to solve problems. It is this engineering mind that sifted through the 10’s of thousands of pages of historical documents and figured out what the income tax amendment to the Constitution was supposed to do, and what it was not supposed to do. So it is the same with these myriad of issues Hart tackles. Hart knows how to solve problems, and this is evidenced by all of the widespread issues he gets his head around and then promotes a solution for.
As a legislator, Hart makes about $5 and hour. With his engineering education and MBA, both from top schools, Hart should be billing out for several hundreds of dollars an hour. He has also made good on his tax debt to the state of Idaho, and the remaining alleged unpaid balance is pure bureaucratic harassment. (For those people who claim he doesn’t pay taxes, the reality is that he has paid more than his fair share to Idaho and the IRS, so get over it!)
We think that totality of Hart’s experience, and his willingness to butt heads with bureaucrats, makes Hart a good legislator and one of the best defenders of our rights. Let’s hire Hart for another term.
That’s our opinion and we’re sticking to it!
(Note from the Gang: Chester is bound and gagged in the closet so he can’t say anything snarky as we post this! We’ll let him out when the beer is gone!)
