Alex Barron’s Stolen Valor?

A few astute Berry Pickers have sent in screenshots of something potentially alarming from Camp Alex. In two different posts Alex posted pictures of naval ships, with snarky chest beating stories that insinuate he was on a ship. These same tipsters noticed something from a copy of his DD-214 that we previously posted that calls these claims into question.

Here is the first of the two posts Alex made. The significance is he typically tells everyone he meets he’s a naval veteran in in the first few minutes. He posts about it, mentions it in every speech, and wants the world to know. So the casual reader would think Alex was on a ship getting tossed about somewhere in the ocean such as this picture shows.

Then a few days after posting this picture, Alex was back at it again with another. Like most of our readers, we’ve had the privilege of knowing several veterans. One common theme, most are humble about their service and they don’t talk constantly about it. Nor do they make questionable claims about their time in service, they stick to the truth. In fact one we asked about Alex’s claims had this to say. “Usually people that make outlandish claims about their military service never did anything they consider heroic. So they over talk about their service, likely because they were stuck behind a desk. Office work is an honorable service, but not flashy like being tossed around on a ship in a storm, while headed to battle. Alex needs to own what he did, and not lie about his service.”   We couldn’t agree more.

Alex’s DD-214

Here is Alex’s DD-214, click on it to enlarge to full size. In the right side, towards the bottom you’ll notice it references the time Alex served. Under time at sea it says, 0 years, 0 months, 0 days. Yet Alex beats his chest, wanting people to think he was clinging for dear life on the deck of a ship in a storm. On a humorous note, the ship from the 2nd image is the USS Gravely which went into service in 2010, almost 20 years after Alex left the military. If you’re gonna lie about your service Alex, at least find a pic of a ship in service while you were.

We’ve clipped out the portion about his service, and lightened the colors a bit to make it easier to read. If Alex would provide a crisp clean version of his DD-214, this wouldn’t be such a struggle. If you click to enlarge, you’ll see in category G it lists his total time out to sea. Again that was a big fat goose egg. He served most of his 4 years in Japan, and flew there and back.

Also, Alex is quick to blab about serving around the world in numerous operations for around a decade. Ummmm Alex, your DD-214 shows 4 years active duty in Japan ONLY. Can you back up your claims of serving in other places as a reservist or in the National Guard? Also you’ve told numerous people you served directly under Colin Powell, because it sounds rad. Earth to Alex, he was in the ARMY, but was the Chairman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff while you were in active duty.  Technically you kinda served under him, but were 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon from him, not directly under him.

Here is a screenshot of Alex claiming he was in Korea and Afghanistan. Again Alex, you left the military in 1993. You claim to have had 10 years of service, starting in 1989. This means at the latest you were done with your duty by 1999. But your DD-214 says your obligatory reserve call back term ended in 1995. The US didn’t invade Afghanistan until October 7, 2001. So either you are bad at math and a horrible liar, or you misspelled Japan in your post. Knock off the baloney Alex, what next are you gonna claim you were a part of NASA too? Maybe we’ll learn you fought in some war prior to being born….the possibilities of your lies are endless.

Other DD-214 finds

While zooming in on this document, we made another surprise find….his mother’s name and address. This is important for a few reasons. In a previous post we mentioned Alex has blurred the “Home of Record at Time of Entry”. We speculate he did this so he can keep up the narrative that he grew up in the Cabrini Green projects of Chicago.

We apologize for the poor quality of the image, it’s the best we could do with the document as provided by Alex. It says, “Almenthia Finch (Mother) 663 W Grace, Chicago, IL 66013“. Since we had this address, we googled it. It’s an apartment/condo complex on the east side of Chicago, right near downtown built in 1969. It is NOT in the Cabrini Green, but instead about 5 miles North of there. For Alex to claim he was raised in this infamously dangerous project, would be similar to someone living in Post Falls, claiming they grew up in Spokane Valley. Ummmm, just because you grew up a few miles from one of the worst areas in America, does not mean you grew up there. It’s a well known fact there were a few very nice high end areas of Chicago just a few miles from Cabrini-Green.

While on this this note, we did a comparison of the blurred address that Alex listed and compared it to his mother’s address. We can’t make it out, but an analysis of the number of digits shows it’s not the same address. The blurred image has 4 digits for the numbers, 8 or 9 for the street, and at 7 or 8 for the city. The state we can’t tell what it is exactly. The point, Alex wasn’t living with his mom when he shipped out. We know from Alex’s domestic abuse case that he does have a 4 page NCIC Criminal Record. Could the address listed possibly be a juvenile detention center or halfway home? It’s well known that troubled youth are often enlisted to help them clean up their life. By no means do we point this out to belittle Alex, or anyone that’s been in that situation. We are simply trying to put the pieces together with what little info Alex has given. Possibly the address is from out of state, which then calls into question his claim to have graduated from Senn High School in Chicago.

Analysis

Alex is a snake oil salesman, pure and simple. He tells people long winded questionable stories about his past, peppering it with little bits of truth, but leaving out the major details. Of all the candidates we’ve investigated in our 8 year history, Alex is hiding more than anyone else, and stretches the truth every chance he gets. It’s bad enough, if Alex told us the sun was shining, we’d look outside before we believed him. As one Berry Picker said, “Alex has either lived a few lifetimes to fit in all that he claims he’s done, or he’s Superman.” Folks that’s just a funny way of saying Alex is full of it….

If you see Alex, tell him to stop stealing valor. Let him know if he did serve in the military, whatever job he had was important and appreciated. He doesn’t need to dress it up to look cool or tough.

  1. Wow, quite a load.
As a retired member of our Navy, the total allegations bring to bear, if true, certain questions of character. I am not in Mr. Barrons district but I certainly would ask him to counter the comments.
