Doug No’s Lack of Transparency

We’ve been meaning to address an April 13th candidate questionnaire in the CDA Press that Doug Okuniewicz  filled out. Most of it’s pretty standard stuff, but we noticed something he did in there. Remember Doug has a masters degree in communications. This allows him to be as transparent as a brick wall. In doing so he misleads the casual reader away from his true intentions.

The main body of the questionnaire sets the tone that he is against the criminal reentry center. He paints a picture of leading the charge against this center. This leaves the reader with the impression that if elected this will be his prime focus.

On the heels of his talk about the reentry center, he goes into his job qualifications that he feels makes him best suited for the job. NO WHERE does he mention the gambling industry.  Instead, he skates around the issue entirely. The casual reader is left with the impression that his experience with government is in regards to the prison reentry center!

Throughout my professional career I have worked with elected officials in a number of states. I have a great deal of experience drafting legislation, writing requests for Attorney General opinions, testifying before legislative committees, city councils, and county boards of commissioners. I already have a thorough understanding of the legislative processes behind getting a good bill passed, or a bad bill killed. But, most importantly, I have solid, professional relationships with many sitting legislators from around the state. This is extremely important.

We’ve written extensively on this subject, it’s all about the gambling. Every instance Doug mentioned in this quote was revolving around legalizing non-casino gambling in Idaho, or asking for more slot machines in Iowa.

Vague Employment history

Then he tries his best to distance himself from the gambling industry with this disingenuous blip:

And, lastly, I also have a solid business background. For the last 26 years, I have worked for a company that has a variety of diverse holdings including banks, construction, fuel distribution, intellectual property management, and ground leasing, for example. I have experience working in large organizations, including managing one with more that 1,000 employees.

The reader is left to think Doug’s employment is in managing one of these businesses. No where does he list his employer has been in the gambling industry since the early 80’s, and that ALL of his employment history has been in casinos. Instead he throws out this spicy as ketchup answer.

Doug also mentions his patents in this questionnaire….which you guessed it are in the gambling industry. Remember everything Doug has done since graduating college has been in the gambling industry.

Doug Digs at his opponent

Doug mentions his opponent is supported by Prison Reentry Center proponents in Boise. We already addressed this in another post. But we’ve heard thru the grapevine that what Doug is saying might not be true in the slightest…we’re awaiting the final verdict before we say more.

Doug, why did you not mention one word of the gambling industry, but instead leave the reader with a different picture of your employment and experience with government? Your lack of transparency on this is cause for concern. If elected, would you continue to speak in similar half truths? Your actions in this questionnaire show you’re not a solution to the problem, but instead part of it. Voters are sick of politicians that mislead them whilst padding their own pockets. You sir fit that mold perfectly.
