About Steve Widmyer, Candidate for Coeur d’Alene Mayor

kingstevewidmyerThe bottom feeders at Huckleberries Online are stirring into a frenzy over Steve ‘Eagle Eye’ Widmyer’s announcement to run for CDA mayor.  Since Liberals and their crazy antics make us laugh, we thought we’d take time to look into this mayoral candidate and his affiliations.

To begin, the CDA Press made mention Steve is a business and property owner, but they leave it at that. What is the extent of Steve’s business holdings, and how can that help or hurt his chances in the mayoral race?

To begin, Steve owns at least 31 properties south of I-90 in Coeur d’Alene, having a total appraised value of $14,752, 404.00 according to the Kootenai County Assessor.  Most of his holding are commercial buildings, with nine of them being apartment complexes.  In addition to this, he owns two women’s beauty boutiques and a popular close-to-downtown restaurant.  His extensive portfolio makes him possibly the wealthiest mayoral candidate CDA has ever had.  Of the four current mayoral candidates, Steve stands to win or lose the most of any candidate. Win, and, we believe, he will continue to funnel money into the LCDC Urban Renewal company, of which is headed by his good buddies, who will spend more tax payer money to improve the downtown area, and will promote tourism hard and heavy. Wouldn’t this fatten his wallet, and improve the value of his properties? However if he loses he can’t guarantee the future of urban renewal in Coeur d’Alene, which means his business would likely plateau.  The bottom line if Widmyer is elected we suspect he’ll be looking out for his interests and those of his buddies first.  The citizens of Coeur d’Alene…not so much.

But it’s not just Steve’s portfolio that’s concerning, it’s his affiliations. Stevie-boy was the Controller for the Duane Hagadone empire at one time, and, we’ve heard, has a good relationship with Duane.  “Everybody knows” or at least suspects that Hagadone has been manipulating Coeur d’Alene mayors for decades, now he stands to get one of his undering/cronies in office–will he be able to get anything he wants?

But his affliations don’t just stop with big money and urban renewal. He’s also on the board of directors for Balance North Idaho, the Liberal den of wolves responsible for the recent hijacking of the CDA school board election. This group pretends to be neutral and non-partisan, yet they’re closely affiliated with the “Don” of Liberal media  David “DooFo” Oliveria, out of state liberal political activist Thom Phaedrus George, Queen Mayor Sandi Bloem, Mike Leprechaun Kennedy, Sgt. Christy Cupcake Woods, and every Liberal of any stripe in North Idaho. Even Balance’s president Eden Irgens is a proud Democrat.  They claim they’re bringing balance to the conservative landscape of Kootenai County, yet everyone knows that their sort of balance is only brought by a healthy shot of Liberalism.  So Stevie-boy is on a board trying to make CDA more liberal…can see where this is going folks?

Voters of Coeur d’Alene why vote for a guy that doesn’t have your best interest in mind, but, more likely, his own. Not just that Stevie-boy wishes to enrich your fine town with even more Liberalism than is already present. If he’s elected we’d bet you can expect more of your hard earned money wasted on fluff projects, and more ridiculous ordinances like the anti-sodomite bias ordinance that recently passed.

    This is so. Typically I have no problem with wealthy individuals choosing how to spend their money and maximize their profits. However, there are some limits to that train of thought for me.

    For example, when the McEuen Park plan first came to light, released by the Que–ehrmm _Mayor’s_ hand-picked committee, it included a sky bridge right from the public park to the privately-held Resort Boardwalk and was planned to be built with public funds. Clearly with things like that going on, we have to be wary of any politicians or their appointees who may attempt to redirect public funds to increase profits for very specific, powerful individuals.

    I would have an entirely different opinion of the matter if the funds were distributed in the light of day and coming from the private individuals or corporations they were meant to aid instead of from money confiscated from the public and reidstributed under the obfuscation of a hand-picked “public” committee chock-full of special interest representatives.

    That’s just as bad as our county commissioners who invited in environmental special interest groups (represented by a Californian) and overpaid an out-of-state consultant to draft our land use code. This sort of stuff is getting ridiculous!

    I am concerned about any mayoral or council candidate with deep ties to special interests like this.

    Note from Chester: Agreed, Adonis! Everyone should be concerned about special intersst ties. This is an important election. Even for those of us who don’t live in within the city limits!

    It seems to me that the conservatives are making a big mistake if they don’t coalesce around a single candidate. The split between Mary Souza and Jim Brannon only serves to strengthen Widmyer. If conservatives are tired of the cozy relationship between politicians and corporations–it would seem to me that the best thing to do is to unite around a single candidate.

    Chester- We couldn’t agree more, which is why we’re hoping Mary will put her effort into running for city council!

    Forgive my ignorance, but why do you want to see Mary drop out of the running for mayor over Brannon? Mary seems like the stronger candidate of the two, and seems to actually want it. Brannon has, to date, done little if anything to connect with the voters.
